Installing a New Septic System in Baldwin County: What to Expect From Start to Finish
By Steven Boyett • October 26, 2026

Whether you're building a new home, adding a cabin, or replacing a failed system, installing a septic system is a big project. Knowing the steps ahead of time makes it much less stressful.
Steven and Jessica Boyett, owners of Steven Boyett's Septic Service, have helped local families and builders through this process for over 30 years. We hold Alabama AOWB #2363 (Advanced Level 1 Installer) and #2364 (Pumper) licenses, and we're licensed and insured.
Step 1: Site Evaluation
Every property is different. A site evaluation looks at your soil, drainage, water table, lot size, and where the home sits. Here on the Gulf Coast, soil and groundwater conditions play a major role in what type of system will work.
Step 2: System Design and Permitting
Based on your site and the size of your home or business, the system is designed to meet local health regulations. Permits and approvals come before any digging. Because we work in this area every day, we know what local requirements look like and what it takes to pass inspection.
Step 3: Installation
Once approved, our crew prepares the site and installs the tank, lines, and drain field. Careful work here pays off for decades. Proper grading, correct materials, and good workmanship are what make a system last.
Step 4: Inspection and Final Cleanup
After installation, the system must pass inspection before it goes into service. We then restore the site so your yard is ready to use again.
Step 5: Maintenance
A new system still needs routine care. Regular septic tank pumping every few years, smart water use, and keeping grease and wipes out of the drain will help it last. Our five essential septic maintenance tips are a good place to start. If a problem ever comes up, our septic repair team is a phone call away. Building a restaurant or commercial kitchen?
